How to Apply for Bugema University 

Bugema University admission form is open to all school leavers, Non-school leavers and special cases qualified applicants irrespective of colour, race, ethnic identity, religion, gender, or Region.

Potential students may apply to any of the Bugema University undergraduate, Bugema University postgraduate, masters, diploma, doctorate, bachelors, pre-masters, Bugema University distant education learning, Bugema University International, Bugema University Ph.D. programs (Courses) at any time and be admitted subject to fulfilling all Bugema University Entry Requirements.

Bugema University Entry Requirements

Admission requirements vary slightly according to the program the applicant is seeking admission for and/or individual circumstances. The school or department in which the applicant wishes to register may prescribe certain additional course requirements if the student is deemed to be deficient.

• Undergraduate Degree Programs: A student needs to present to the Registrar’s Office
o O-level certificate with five credit passes in approved subjects, including a pass in English Language, or equivalent, and
o A-level certificate with two principal passes or equivalent, or
o A pass on the aptitude test as per NCHE, or
o A diploma in a relevant subject from a recognized educational institution.
o For degree in Education, one must have a principal pass (or C+) in each of the relevant teaching subject.

• Diploma Programs: A student needs to present to the Registrar’s office
o O-level certificate with five credit passes in approved subjects, including a pass in English Language, or equivalent, and
o A-level certificate with at least one principal pass at A-level in a relevant subject or equivalent, and
o A certificate in a relevant subject from a recognized educational institution, or
o For a Diploma in Secondary Education, one must have two principal passes or (C+ ) in each of the relevant teaching subject, or
o For a Diploma in Primary Education, one must have a Grade III Teacher’s (P1) Certificate from a recognized institution.
• Certificate Programs: A student needs to present to the Registrar’s office an O-level certificate with at least five passes.

Application Procedure

  1. Obtain an application form from the Registrar’s office or from the liaison offices.
  2. Fill the form correctly and attach copies of all your education certificates and documents along with the application fee as stipulated in the application form.
  3. Return these documents promptly to the Registrar’s Office at least 3 weeks before the beginning of the new academic year.
    If your application is accepted, you will receive a notification-of-acceptance letter from the Registrar. You may come to the university only if you have already received the acceptance letter.

Admission of International Students

International students may be admitted if they hold either comparable certification or university admission status in their own country. If you come from a country where the system of education does not have an A-level system; for example, Kenya,Tanzania etc a student is expected to enroll in the four year program.

Academic Documents for Admission

At the time of the student’s first registration, the student is required to present original documents. They will be certified and returned to the student. How¬ever, a student may be requested to present them again at the Registrar’s Office or to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor – Academics’ office should the need arise.

Upgrading from Diploma to Degree

Students wishing to upgrade from diploma to degree should have the following,
(i) Minimum overall Grade Point Average of 2.80 (second class lower) or better,
(ii) Recommendation from the current head of department authorizing the student to join the degree program.

Transferring to another Department

This is acceptable under the guidance of the department heads and the Registrar’s Office. A student wishing to transfer to another department or course may do so only after completing 18 credit hours, which is equivalent to one semester. The student must check with both the current and the new department to know whether they qualify for the transfer. If it is acceptable, the student must obtain Change of Major form from the Registrar’s Office and officially apply.

Registration

Students are required to report to the university on the scheduled date so that they may register on time and begin classes on time. Usually, one week is set apart for registration. During registration, new students are given orientation to the university and its programs and facilities.

Registration Procedures

There are five basic steps in the registration procedure is as follows:

  1. At the Business Office, students need to
    • Arrange financial payment
    • Obtain financial clearance
  2. At the student’s Academic Department, students need to
    • Obtain a registration form,
    • Pay departmental club fee,
    • Be assigned to a faculty advisor,
    • With the advisor, select courses in accordance with the recommended schedules published in this bulletin, and
    • Obtain approval for the courses selected from the department chairperson.
  3. At the Dean of Student’s Office, students need to
    • Obtain their residential status,
    • Register for the Bugema University Student Association (BUSA), and
    • Register and clear financial obligations to respective national and/or social clubs,
    • Submit BUSA receipt for due approval..
  4. At the Registrar’s Office, students need to
    • Complete registration of student’s details, and
    • Obtain Registration Cards printed from the database. Individual Registration Cards are necessary to gain entry when classes begin,
    • Keep the registration card safe for day to day use.

Students who, for any reason, arrive after the closing date of registration may be allowed to register. However, a fee that increases daily is charged for late registration. (Consult the financial section of this bulletin and business office staff for details.) Late registration officially closes at the discretion of the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs. The university may consider registration of students with special cases, such as accidents or death in the family but will not assign a full load.
