Aspirants who intend to fill out the AFCAT application form 2023 must meet the age, educational qualification, nationality, AFCAT Qualification, and medical standards requirements.

AFCAT Eligibility 2023: Are you appearing in AFCAT 2023 exam? AFCAT 2023 is conducted to select candidates as Commissioned Officers in Flying and Ground Duty (Technical and Non-Technical) branches.

AFCAT 1 Eligibility 2023

To be eligible for AFCAT 1 2023 exam, candidates must be a citizen of India. Both unmarried male and female candidates can apply for the exam. For the Flying Branch, the AFCAT 1 age limit is 20 to 24 years as on January 1, 2024, i.e. candidates must have been born between January 2, 2000, to 01 January 2004 (both dates inclusive). The upper age limit for candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot License issued by DGCA (India) is relaxable up to 26 years i.e. born between January 2, 1998, to January 1, 2004 (both dates inclusive). For the Ground Duty (Technical & Non-Technical) branch, the age limit of candidates is 20 to 26 years as on January 1, 2024, i.e. candidates must have been born between January 2, 1998, to January 1, 2004 (both dates inclusive).

AFCAT Full Form

AFCAT full form is Air Force Common Admission Test. The exam is conducted by the Indian Air Force. The test is held every year in February and August, to pick up Class-I Officers in Flying and Ground Duties (Technical and Non-Technical). Both male and female candidates are eligible to apply for AFCAT.

AFCAT Eligibility 2023 Nationality & Marital Status

The eligibility of AFCAT in terms of nationality and marital status is given below:

  • Candidates must be a citizen of India
  • Candidates must be below 25 years and should be unmarried
  • Widows/Widowers and divorcees (with or without encumbrances) below 25 years are also not eligible
  • Married candidates above 25 years can apply, but during the training period they will not be provided separate accommodations for the spouse

The branch-wise age limit for AFCAT exam is given below:

AFCAT Eligibility for Flying Branch through AFCAT/ NCC Entry

The age of candidates should be between 20 and 24 years. Candidates must have been born between January 2, 1999, to January 1, 2003. The upper age limit of candidates having a valid and current commercial pilot license issued by DGCA is relaxed up to 26 years, i.e., candidates must have been born between January 2, 1997, to January 1, 2003.

AFCAT Exam Eligibility for Ground Duty (Technical & Non-Technical) Branch

Candidates must be aged between 20 and 26 years as on January 1, 2023. Candidates must have born between January 2, 1997, to January 1, 2003.

AFCAT Qualification

The branch-wise educational qualification for AFCAT is given below:

AFCAT Qualification for Flying Branch

Candidates must have passed Class 12 with 60 percent in Maths and Physics and graduated in any discipline/BE/BTech/Cleared section A and B exam of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India with 60 percent.

AFCAT Qualification for Technical Ground Duty 

AFCAT qualification prescribed for Ground Duty (Technical) branch is given below:

AFCAT Criteria for Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) (AE (L))

Candidates must have completed Class 12 with 60 percent in Physics and Mathematics and a minimum of four years of degree graduation/integrated post-graduation in Engineering/ Technology from a recognized university. Or,

Cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate membership examination of the institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies with 60 percent in the following disciplines.

AFCAT Eligibility for Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical)

Candidates must have passed Class 12 with 60 percent in Physics and Maths and a four-year graduation/integrated post-graduation qualification in Engineering/Technology from a recognized university or cleared sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institute of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India by actual studies with minimum 60 percent in following subjects:

  • Aerospace Engineering
  • Aeronautical Engineering
  • Aircraft Maintenance Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering and Automation
  • Mechanical Engineering (Production)
  • Mechanical Engineering (Repair and Maintenance)
  • Industrial Engineering

AFCAT Eligibility for Technical Ground Duty (Non-Technical) 

AFCAT Eligibility Criteria for Administration & Logistics: Graduation in any discipline/cleared sections A and B of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India with 60 percent.

Eligibility Criteria for AFCAT for Accounts: Graduation in Commerce with 60 percent or equivalent marks.

Important points to note:

  • LLB-qualified and integrated/dual degree candidates may be employed on the legal duties of the IAF (After commissioning)
  • Candidates who are studying in the final year/semester and are yet to pass the exam can apply, provided they do not have any backlog and should have secured 60 percent. They are required to submit proof of passing Graduation
  • Candidates who have failed the Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS)/ Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT) in an earlier attempt or a Flight Cadet suspended from flying training at Air Force Academy will not be eligible to apply in Flying Branch
  • Candidates who were admitted earlier at the NDA, Indian Military Academy, Air Force Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai, and Officer’s Training Academy Gaya but have been removed on grounds of indiscipline are ineligible to apply
  • Candidates who are debarred by the Ministry of Defence from holding any commission in the Defence Services are not eligible for AFCAT
  • Candidates who hold criminal charges are not eligible

AFCAT Eligibility Criteria 2023: Medical Standards

The basic requirements of medical fitness are the same for all branches except for aircrew, in which the parameters for visual acuity, anthropometry, and certain other physical standards are more stringent.

To be eligible for the AFCAT exam 2023, candidates need to fulfill the criteria prescribed by IAF in terms of nationality, age limit, educational qualification, and physical standards. AFCAT eligibility criteria is given below:

AFCAT Eligibility Criteria: Nationality

Candidates must be a citizen of India as per the Indian citizenship act, 1955

AFCAT Age limit

The age limits prescribed for the exam are different for different branches. The table below contains the age limit for different branches.

Flying Branch Candidates should be between 20 and 24 years. The upper age limit for candidates having a Commercial Pilot License is relaxed up to 26 years
Ground Duty (Technical & Non-Technical) Branch The age of candidates should be between 20 and 26 years

AFCAT Marital Status

  • Candidates below 25 years of age must be unmarried at the time of commencement of the course
  • Widows/Widowers and divorcees below 25 years are also not eligible
  • Married candidates above 25 years are eligible to apply, but during their training period, they are neither provided married accommodation nor can they live with family

AFCAT Eligibility: Educational Qualification

The educational qualification prescribed for different branches is given below.

Branch Educational Qualification
Flying Branch Candidates must have passed Class 12 with 60 per cent in Maths and Physics. They must also hold a graduation degree in any discipline/BE/BTech/cleared section A and B exam of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised University with 60 per cent
Ground Duty Technical Branch Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics)

Passed Class 12 with 60 per cent each in Physics and Mathematics and four years degree in Engineering/Technology

Or,

Cleared Sections A and B of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate membership examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies with 60 per cent in disciplines specified by the examination authority

Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical)

Candidates must have passed Class 12 with 60 per cent in Physics and Mathematics and degree/integrated post-graduation in Engineering/Technology

Or,

Cleared sections A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India by actual studies with minimum 60 per cent or equivalent in certain disciplines specified by IAF

Ground Duty (Non-Technical) branches Administration

Graduation in any discipline with a minimum of 60 per cent

Or,

Cleared section A&B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised university with 60 per cent

Education Completed MBA/MCA or MA/MSc in English/Physics/Mathematics/Chemistry/ Statistics/ International relations/ International Studies/ Defence Studies/ Psychology/ Computer Science/ IT/ Management/ Mass Communication/ Journalism/ Public Relation with 50 per cent and 60 per cent in graduation
