Graduate Intern: Ecological Technician (Freshwater)

This position is at Jonkershoek Nature Reserve in Stellenbosch. Duties include checking compliance with the National Water Act and auditing Water Use Licenses. Interns will help with license applications, turn ecological data into databases, and support freshwater monitoring. They will also do fieldwork and write technical reports. A BSc Honours or MSc in Freshwater Ecology, Aquatic Science, Conservation Biology, or Environmental Science is needed. Knowledge of the National Water Act and SASS5 biomonitoring is required, along with familiarity with wetland protocols as a plus.

Graduate Intern: GIS Technologist

Located in the Cape Town office, this role focuses on mapping and data handling. Tasks cover GIS data collection, verification, and real-time mapping for fire management. Interns will build GIS databases from raw data and help with conservation reports and spatial analysis. A degree at NQF Level 7 or higher in Geomatics, Environmental Management, Conservation Science, or related fields is required. Skills in ArcGIS, QGIS, cartography, and GPS are essential.

General Requirements

All applicants must be South African citizens and recent graduates unemployed for up to two years. A clean criminal record and a valid Code EB08 driver’s license are mandatory. Candidates need to be ready for remote field work.
