Stellenbosch University Registration 2026
Since online registration commenced on 2 January 2026 for the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and 13 January 2026 for the Stellenbosch campus, there has been a steady increase in registration numbers, with more than 31 584 students having taken up their place at Stellenbosch University by 13 February 2026. Online self-registration ended on 6 February 2026. The final date for the late registration of undergraduate and postgraduate students, and for module and programme amendments is 21 February 2026. M and D students should take note of the respective registration dates listed in the related section below, as well as arrangements for some structured Masters’ programmes.

Online registration commenced on the following dates:
- Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences: 2 January 2026
- Stellenbosch Campus: 13 January 2026
Install Microsoft Authenticator on your phone before registration: All new and returning students need to install the Microsoft Authenticator (MA) application on their Android or Apple smartphone or tablet before registering. It is a compulsory requirement from Microsoft. Click here for instructions on how to install the MA application.
Assisted registration
Please take note of the specific registration dates for your programme and year of study outlined in the registration schedule. It is advisable to review the schedule before commencing with the registration process.
- Students (excluding the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and Stellenbosch Business School) are welcome to visit the computer user area in Room E24 on the first floor in the Neelsie Student Centre until 6 February 2026 (during office hours) if you would like assistance with the online self-registration process.
- If a particular issue persists and prevents online registration, or if you have special requirements, assisted registration will be available on the Stellenbosch campus in the NARGA computer user area in the Admin A building in Ryneveld Street during the on-campus registration period from 27 to 31 January 2026. Please note that each faculty has a specific date and time slot. Details are available in the registration schedule.
Registration dates for M and D students
- M students should note that registration dates for some structured M programmes may be earlier than the general registration dates indicated in the registration schedule. Students must confirm with their programme coordinators.
- 21 February 2026: This is the final registration date for continuing M and D students and for the late registration of undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as for module/programme amendments.
- 27 March 2026: Final registration day for newcomer M and D students.

Registration Procedures: Stellenbosch Campus
The following registration options are available to students based in faculties on the Stellenbosch Campus:
Option 1: Online registration (self-registration)
- As most students are able to register online, we encourage you to make use of the online registration process via the Student Portal. Beat the queue and register online!
- The following students will not have access to online registration:
- Current SU students who have one or more proof-of-admissibility document(s) outstanding (e.g. matriculation exemption certificate, advice of results, or post-matriculation proof of admissibility)
- Current SU students whose readmission to the University is not in order
- Those whose student accounts with the University are in arrears (debtors). Please see the student fees section for more information.
- Those who register for special programmes or as a special student
- Those whose academic record at the end of the previous year showed a final result other than “Pass year”
- Online registration can be done via https://student.sun.ac.za/ from a device that can utilise a “desktop view” with internet access. Please note,however, that the best browser to utilise is Microsoft Edge.
- We will also be assisting students on campus with the online registration process.
- Students (excluding Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences students) are thus welcome to visit the computer user area situated in Room E24, first floor, Langenhoven Student Centre (the Neelsie) between 13 January and 6 February 2026 (during office hours) if you would like assistance with the online registration process.
- Should you be unable to register online, or if you have special requirements, you may register on campus during our on-campus (assisted) registration period which takes place in the NARGA computer user area in the Admin A building in Ryneveld Street for all Stellenbosch Campus students.
Option 2: On-campus (assisted) registration (undergraduate and postgraduate programmes)
- This option is for undergraduate and postgraduate students who cannot register online or have trouble completing their registration through the student portal. If you need help with aspects like curriculum advice, you can register in person during the on-campus registration period.
- Keep in mind that each faculty has specific registration dates and deadlines for on-campus (assisted) registration. You can find these dates by clicking here.
- All Stellenbosch campus students who could not register via the online registration process can register in the computer user area (NARGA) in Admin A.
- The only exception is returning undergraduate students of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences based on the Stellenbosch campus, who can register with Ms Jabu Motahane in Room 3020, Admin A ([email protected] / 021 808 4842).

Pre-Registration Clearance (Verification) Of All International Degree-Seeking Students Documentation Before Academic Registration 2026 (1St Year And Continuing Students)
1. Pre-Registration Clearance For All International Students On The Stellenbosch Campus: (Undergraduate And Postgraduate)
- Once you have obtained final admission to Stellenbosch University or if you are a continuing international student, you must undergo pre-registration clearance through SU International.
- This step must be completed before registering for an academic programme for the 2026 academic year.
- Pre-registration applies to ALL international students, including 1st year and continuing students as well as holders with permanent residence in SA (who registers for the first time at Stellenbosch University), holders of refugees in SA and holders of asylum seeker status in SA.
- Pre-registration clearance will commence on MONDAY, 6 JANUARY 2026.

2. Pre-Registration Clearance For International Students At Tygerberg Campus: (Undergraduate & Postgraduate)

3. Compulsory Certified Documentation Required:
a) Study Visa & ZEP / LEP Holders [Residential in SA]
- Copy of valid passport
- Copy of valid study visa issued to study at Stellenbosch University or ZEP/LEP permit.
- Proof that you have medical cover with a South African medical provider for the full academic year (Jan – Dec 2026). Students are advised to view the list of Student Medical Cover Options on the following website: SA MEDICAL COVER
- Proof of minimum compulsory initial fee payment or scholarship letter as per the 2026 Compulsory Fees Document [see point 6]
- An International student from the Rest of the World who is registering with a Study Visa and who has Permanent residence in ANY country in Africa can upload proof of permanent residence in Africa (Must be certified) [OPTIONAL] [see point 1]
b) Permanent Resident Holders
- First-year students with permanent residence must upload a valid proof of permanent residence or non-SA ID document.
- Continuing students with permanent residence do not have to do pre-registration again.
- Medical cover is not compulsory for permanent resident permit students
- Pay as SA student as per the 2026 Compulsory Fees Document [see point 6]
c) Refugee and Asylum Seeker Status students
- Students with refugee or asylum seeker status are exempt from the passport but must upload a copy of a valid refugee and/or asylum seeker permit.
- Medical cover is not compulsory for refugee and asylum seeker status students.
- Pay as SA student as per the 2026 Compulsory Fees Document [see point 6].
d) Diplomatic Status Students [Residential in SA]
- Copy of valid passport
- Copy of valid diplomatic status permit
- Medical cover is not compulsory for Diplomatic status students.
- Pay as SA student as per the 2026 Compulsory Fees Document.
e) Postgraduate Students for Part-Time studies on a Work / Critical Skills visa
International Postgraduate students enrolling for part-time studies, who are residential in SA during the 2026 academic year while completing their degree, need to upload:
- Copy of valid passport
- Copy of valid work visa
- Copy of formal confirmation of your current employment in South Africa (Not older than 3 months)
- Medical cover is not compulsory for students on a work / critical skills visa
- Proof of minimum compulsory initial fee payment or scholarship letter as per the 2026 Compulsory Fees Document [see point 1].
f) Non-residential Postgraduate Students [Modular / Contact only]
- International postgraduate students who are registering for a non-residential/modular programme and who will not be residing in SA during the 2026 academic year while completing their degree, need to upload a copy of a valid passport.
- Medical cover is not compulsory for non-residential postgraduate students.
- Proof of minimum compulsory initial fee payment or scholarship letter as per the 2026 Compulsory Fees Document [see point 1].
g) Visitors’ Visa 11(6) Endorsed for Studying (Part-Time Postgraduate Studies ONLY)
International Postgraduate students on a Visitors Visa 11(6) must have the visa endorsed for studying in SA and need to upload:
- Copy of valid passport
- Copy of valid visitors’ visa 11(6) endorsed for studying in SA.
- Medical cover is not compulsory for students on a visitors’ visa
- Proof of minimum compulsory initial fee payment or scholarship letter as per the 2026 Compulsory Fees Document [see point 1].
Once pre-registration clearance has been finalised, a confirmation email will be sent to you. Please allow at least 3-5 working days response time.
