How to Apply for University of Pretoria Honours Bursary 2023/2024
University of Pretoria (UP) is a leading public research university in South Africa located in Pretoria. It is also among the oldest universities in the country, having been established in 1908. UP is focused on creating a high-quality learning environment and a state-of-the-art research center.
There are multiple departments in the university in the science, arts, and commerce stream. These provide undergrad, postgrad, short, and online courses.
The fees are quite reasonable. On top of that, the university has several bursary and scholarship programmes to help students who lack access to education.
University of Pretoria (UP) – ITS Honours Bursary 2023
The Department of Geography, Geoinformatics, and Meteorology at the University of Pretoria is offering bursaries to students pursuing studies in the department. These are available to black students who are pursuing an Honours qualification in the following fields of study:
- Geography and Environmental Sciences
- Geoinformatics
- Meteorology
The bursary amount is set at R 90,000 for each candidate, and it will cover various costs like registration fees, tuition fees, accommodation, etc.
Once awarded, it cannot be transferred, exchanged, or used for other purposes.

Eligibility Criteria For The UP – ITS Honours Bursary
There are some criteria set for the ITS Honours bursary programme 2023. Anyone applying for the funding must meet all of the criteria to be considered. Failing to do so will result in immediate rejection. Therefore, always cross-check before applying.
The eligibility requirements for ITS Honours Bursary 2023 are:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must be ethnically black
- Must have completed Matric
- Must be either studying or have registered for an Honours qualification at the University of Pretoria in the Department of Geography, Geoinformatics, and Meteorology
- This degree must be the first full-time Honours qualification
- Must not be working more than 12 hours a week, if engaged in paid employment
- Must not be receiving more than R 90,000 from other single source bursary or scholarship programme
Fulfilling all the criteria, however, doesn’t guarantee selection. This is a merit-based bursary programme.
Those with a superior academic track record will get preference over others.
Students with bigger financial needs will also be prioritized. The decision taken by the department regarding the selection will be considered final.
How to Apply For The ITS Honours Bursary?
If you’re eligible and interested in the ITS Honours bursary programme, consider applying for it. There’s a short application process that you need to complete. While it’s short, you need to maintain accuracy and follow the guidelines. Incomplete or inaccurate submissions are not considered.
No application forms are necessary for the UP – ITS Honours bursary programme. You just need to send in a few documents to the department via email.

- Valid ID documents
- Student ID card
- Full academic transcript
- Updated Curriculum Vitae
- A motivation letter supporting your application (not more than one page)
- Proof of household income (latest payslips if employed; affidavit if unemployed; death certificates if deceased)
