About AFCAT Exam

The IAF administers the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) to select Class-I Gazetted Officers in Flying and Ground Duties (Technical and Non-Technical). The exam is given twice a year, in February and August/September.
AFCAT is one of the most competitive defense exams, with thousands of individuals applying to join the Air Force Academy. Candidates must prepare well for the AFCAT exam by reviewing the exam pattern, syllabus, previous year question papers, and practice tests.

AFCAT is an entry point for both male and female candidates who want to join the Indian Air Force for both Short Service Commission in the Flying Branch and Permanent Commission/Short Service Commission in Ground Duties for both Technical and Non-Technical jobs.

AFCAT Exam: Types of Commission

AFCAT exam is conducted for granting the following two types of commissions:

Permanent Commission (PC) for Men: Candidates joining as PC officers will serve till the age of superannuation in their respective branches as per their rank.

Short Service Commission (SSC) for Men & Women

  • The engagement period for Flying Branch (Men and Women) SSC Officers is 14 years from the date of Commissioning (Non-extendable)
  • The initial tenure for Ground Duty (Technical & Non-Technical) SSC Officers is for a period of ten years. An extension of four years may be granted subject to service requirements, availability of vacancies, willingness, suitability, and merit
  • Grant of Permanent Commission (PC) is considered during the last year of service subject to service requirements, availability of vacancies, willingness, suitability, and merit

AFCAT EKT Syllabus

Candidates who wish to appear for Ground Duty Technical Branch need to appear for EKT (Engineering Knowledge Test). Some topics are common for every branch including Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Drawing & Physics. The detailed AFCAT syllabus is given below.

AFCAT Exam Pattern 2023

The AFCAT exam pattern divides it into online examinations and AFSB tests. The online test is required of all enrolled candidates. General Awareness, Verbal Ability in English, Numerical Ability and Reasoning, and Military Aptitude Test questions are included in the exam. The EKT, which is only for candidates in the Technical branch, includes questions from Mechanical, Computer Science, and Electrical & Electronics. The maximum number of marks available for the AFCAT is 300. The EKT test paper is worth a total of 150 points.

The AFSB test is divided into three stages. Officer Intelligence Rating Test, Picture Perception Test, and Discussion Test compose the first stage, and Psychological Tests, Group Tests, and Interviews comprise the second. Candidates interested in the flying branch

AFCAT Admit Card 2023

AFCAT admit card 2023 will be released online by the Indian Air Force on February 8, 2023. To download AFCAT admit card, registered candidates need to log in with email ID, password, and captcha code. The hard copy of the admit card is not sent to candidates by post.
