Applications are now open for a pioneering interdisciplinary initiative sponsored by the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) in partnership with the Swiss Government as well as the University of Venda (Univen) and the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. The Green Building Summer School: Buildings as an energy harvester is a two week program that targets University, University of Technology and TVET college graduates. This unique program seeks to combine theory and practise with hands-on experience and concludes with a collaborative demonstration project where participants will work together to retrofit an existing building into a Green building thus transforming the building facade into an energy harvester.
Green building, or sustainable design, is the practice of increasing the efficiency with which buildings and their sites use energy, water, and materials, and of reducing impacts on human health and the environment for the entire lifecycle of a building. The Green Building Summer School takes place at the University of Venda in Limpopo Province from the 02 to 13 March 2024. The two-week programme will entail engagements with energy efficiency experts from the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, as well as the Department of Public Works and infrastructure, and the Department of Defence.
The targeted group includes unemployed graduates in physics, material science, energy efficiency, renewables energy, electrical engineering, environmental studies, and architecture. Kindly note that the logistics, accommodation and board will funded for all participants that are chosen to attend the Summer School.
